Trademark & Intellectual Property

Every day your business trades without a registered trademark is a day someone else can register your name, your logo, or your tagline. Trademark protection in Nigeria is registration-based  which means the first to register wins. TEP manages the full trademark lifecycle, from initial availability search through to your certificate of registration and ongoing portfolio management.

🔍 Trademark Availability Search

We respect your time, set realistic timelines, communicate progress proactively, and meet the deadline we commit to without exception.

📝 Trademark Application & Prosecution

We prepare and file your application in the correct Nice Classification class(es), and manage the full prosecution process  including examination responses, publication in the Trade Marks Journal, opposition monitoring, and collection of your certificate of registration.

🔄 Trademark Renewals

Nigerian trademarks are registered for 7 years, renewable indefinitely. We track your renewal dates and file on time  you will never lose a registration through an administrative oversight. Renewal reminders are issued at 12 months and 3 months before the renewal date.

©️ Copyright Registration

We register your copyright with the Nigerian Copyright Commission, providing formal evidential protection for software, creative works, written content, artistic works, and other original material. Note: copyright subsists automatically in Nigeria at the point of creation  registration provides significant additional evidential value in enforcement proceedings.

💼 IP Portfolio Advisory

Strategic advice on building and structuring a trademark portfolio  including class selection strategy, international filing considerations via the Madrid System, responding to infringement notices, and structuring IP assets for licensing, investment, or commercial transactions.

Immigration Services

A missed immigration deadline or incorrectly completed form can result in fines, operational disruption, and in serious cases, deportation proceedings. TEP’s immigration team processes CERPAC applications, Expatriate Quotas, and STR visas daily  attending NIS offices in person and tracking every case from submission to collection. We take the complexity and risk out of your immigration obligations entirely.

STR Visa Support

We assist with all documentation required for the Subject to Regularisation visa  the first entry point for most expatriates coming to Nigeria to work. We advise on the full STR requirements and ensure your documentation is complete and accurate before submission.

CERPAC Application & Renewal

Full end-to-end management of the Combined Expatriate Residence Permit and Aliens Card  from document collection and form preparation through biometric appointment scheduling and card delivery. We handle both new CERPAC applications and renewals, attending NIS offices in person.

Expatriate Quota Application

Preparation and processing of Expatriate Quota applications to the Federal Ministry of Interior including eligibility assessment, quota justification, supporting documentation, and liaison with the Ministry through to approval. An Expatriate Quota is the legal foundation for employing foreign nationals in Nigeria.

Temporary Work Permit (TWP)

Processing for short-term specialist assignments of under three months. The TWP is the appropriate route for foreign experts, consultants, and contractors undertaking defined, time-limited assignments in Nigeria without the need for a full CERPAC.

Business Visa Support

Documentation support and processing assistance for foreign nationals visiting Nigeria for business purposes, including visa invitation letters, business visa applications, and liaison with the relevant Nigerian mission overseas where required.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often from businesses navigating Nigeria’s regulatory landscape.

Our LLC incorporation typically takes 5–10 working days from receipt of all required documents and the 50% deposit. Business name registrations are generally 3–5 working days. Timelines can vary depending on CAC portal load and any queries raised by the registry we track daily and respond to queries immediately to avoid delays.

Yes. Under CAMA 2020, foreign nationals can hold 100% of most categories of Nigerian companies, including LLCs. However, certain regulated sectors  such as broadcasting, defence, and some aspects of financial services  have Nigerian participation requirements. We will advise you specifically on your business type and sector before you incorporate.

The CAC charges a daily penalty for late annual returns filings. The penalty accrues from the filing due date until the return is filed. We will calculate the total amount currently outstanding and advise you on payment and remediation before any payment is made. We then file as quickly as possible to stop further penalties from accruing. It is always better to regularise your position than to continue delaying.

Book a free regulatory assessment with TEP. We will review your business activities, sector, and structure, and map every applicable federal and state licensing obligation  along with estimated costs, timelines, and a priority sequence for obtaining each one. Many businesses discover they need licenses they were unaware of; it is far better to identify and address these proactively than to be caught operating without them.

Yes. We take over in-progress applications regularly. We will review everything that has been submitted so far, identify any issues, errors, or missing items, and manage the application through to completion. We are transparent about what we find  if there are problems with the existing submission, we will tell you clearly and advise on the most efficient path to resolution.
